The Media Murder Fascination

25 06 2007

Sympathies go out to the families of everyone who is senselessly murdered.

Jessie Marie Davis is one of those woman. She was pregnant and just coming up on her due date when her body was found in rural Ohio.

So too was 22-year-old Jennifer “Jenna” Nielsen. She was almost nine months pregant when her body was just recently found in North Carolina.

It is Davis’ case that is getting the wall-to-wall media coverage.

Sure it’s a shocking case. Police have arrested two suspects in the case, one of which is her ex-boyfriend who used to be a police officer.

However, Nielsen’s case went virtually unreported by the national media outlets.

Sadly, Nielsen’s murderer is still at large.

Maybe some of those dozens and dozens and dozens of hounding reporters up in Canton, Ohio could take their trucks south and shed some light on Nielsen’s and other cases involving missing and murdered women whose murderers are still on the run.

Report the news.

Where is Nielson’s murderer?

Not — what did Davis’ alleged killer wear in court today?

Gosh, what is the difference between those two victims that would warrant the difference in coverage? Hmm..I wonder…

A repeat of the Laci Peterson story. Generates good media coverage.

Of course, the allegations of killing a pregnant girlfriend in front of their two year old son makes it sensationalist. Add to the fact that the accused is involved in numerous relationships with several women.
