“The tide has turned”

19 04 2008

On Friday’s CFRA Lunch Bunch:

Ottawa Sun’s Sue Sherring: “In the past when I’ve written negative things about the mayor, I get deluged by callers and emailers to leave him alone and this morning I had one person. I had lots of emails but only one person saying ‘get off his back’.”

CFRA’s Rob Snow: “The tide has turned.

Sherring: “I think the tide has turned.

CFRA City Hall Reporter Dan Pihlainen: “That’s very interesting. I think that says an awful lot actually.”

Snow: “Do you sense that as well Dan? That the tide has turned? I certainly sense that. I think it turned in the last few weeks with the greatest property tax increase since amalgamation and the $50 snow tax that was originally not well thought out and was just kind of off the cuff floated by the mayor ‘Well, we’re this much in the hole. There are this many households — 50 dollars!’”

Pihlainen: “He has a core support that I mean he could do anything — (laughter) — that he hasn’t already done (laughter) and get away with it. But there are people — that sort of soft support is starting to move away and start to question some of the decisions that he’s made and some of the places he’s taken council over the past few weeks. Months.”

Sherring: “I think as you say, the tide has turned and people now see that he isn’t able to deliver what he said he was going to deliver…”

ADDITIONAL: The steady stream of messes surrounding our mayor has attracted the attention of Quizlaw.com - a major U.S. blog.
