Things in the sky that make you go “Huh?”

10 05 2008

It was another beautiful day in our nation’s capital and many of us spent it outside, on a patio, in the backyard or in the Byward Market.

Early this morning I spotted a plane flying a colour banner with only the text “Mexico”.  Minus the “Tourism Board” text, it looked a lot like this logo:

Cinco de Mayo was five days ago… Huh?  Why the “advertisement” over Ottawa’s downtown early on this Saturday morning?  I thought maybe I was still drunk.  But no, all day as we walked around downtown this plane kept flying this huge colourful banner and no one seemed to know why!

Even as I walked home late in the afternoon the plane was still circling the downtown and flying the Mexico banner.  Does anyone know why? Who really wants to go to Mexico right now?  I’m saying that based on the political climate and the actual climate.  It’s almost summer.

Weird.

I saw that too! I asked my driving companion if this was some subtle way to overcome the negative publicity of the Brenda Martin affair, but it might just as easily have been a way of (unwittingly) keeping it alive.

I know how much it costs to hire a plane to do that sort of thing, so let’s just say this was one of the more inept advertising campaigns that I’ve seen.

I know. The cost is outrageous especially for ALL day. That plane must have refueled at least once or twice.

It doesn’t make too much sense.

I confess to confusion as well, we were headed on an STO adventure into Gatineau when we first saw it circling the city. Someone, I’m sure, thought it was a good idea and if anyone ever figures out what it was it would be interesting to know.

This plane with the banner in tow is flying again today (Sunday). The plane itself doesn’t look all that — how do I say this — modern.

What a pricey ad campaign (??) this is!

Cost issues aside the Mexicans are welcome to employ some local pilot to fly around all day if they want to.

I assumed that it was aimed at all the folks out to see the tulip festival..but I’m mostly just amused that I watched it on Saturday and flew to Veracruz on Sunday.

I think it is obvious.

If the Mexican Gov’t can successfully confuse us to thinking we live in mexico, eg. by having a plane with a banner tell us that this is Mexico, every day, all day.

Then we will start sending our tax dollars to the Mexican authorities, and not the Canadian ones. Since why would you pay taxes to a gov’t who is not in power?

This is obviously a power grab by the mexicans, the likes the western world has never seen. It won’t be long before Putin has a RUSSIA plane flying above every major US city, and all hell breaks loose. We need to spread the word…. This is CANADA not MEXICO!! Before it’s too late, god’s speed my friends and patriots, god’s speed.
